Since 1982

In 1982, the Human Services Plan for Huntingdon County identified the need for a service that would address the problem of domestic violence. The Huntingdon County Human Services Council endorsed the need of a local service provider.

A public hearing was held in November of 1984 to discuss solutions to this identified problem. Following the public hearing a task force was organized with interest citizens and representatives from Women’s Health Services, United Way, Outpatient Counseling, Mental Health/Mental Retardation, Huntingdon County Library, Juniata College, Daily News, Huntingdon County Human Services Council, Huntingdon County Child and Adult Development, Keystone Legal Services, Human Services, Huntingdon Borough Police, and Broad Top Area Medical Center serving as members. Women’s Health Services, Inc. served as the umbrella agency for the development and implementation of the project until July 1, 1986 when Huntingdon House, Inc. was established as an independent non-profit corporation.
